VPS in the Netherlands

A VPS in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from $4 a month.

If you only pick one European location, most people pick this one. Amsterdam is home to AMS-IX, with 857 connected networks, and a short hop from most of Western Europe. Billed by the hour, never more than the month, paid in crypto.

Who hosts in Amsterdam

Why put a server in the Netherlands?

Amsterdam is the safe first pick for Europe. AMS-IX lists 857 connected networks, NL-ix another 540, and the physics floor from here is 4 ms to London, 4 ms to Paris and 6 ms to Berlin. If you sell to Western Europe and don’t yet know which country your users are in, start here and measure.

It is also a clean answer to a compliance question. The Netherlands is an EU founding member, the GDPR applies, and the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens supervises it. A business that sells to Europeans can keep its data inside the EU without explaining an unusual jurisdiction to anyone.

Where Amsterdam is not the best pick: Athens, Istanbul and the eastern Mediterranean are much closer to our Sofia and Istanbul servers, and Asia is far closer to Singapore and Tokyo. The latency chart below names the better location wherever one wins by 10 ms or more.

The fastest a round trip from Amsterdam could ever be: light in fibre covers about 200 km per millisecond, over the straight-line distance. Real routes are longer and add equipment, so expect more. We only suggest another location when it saves at least 10 ms, and some neighbouring countries don’t connect directly, so a closer location can still be slower. Hourly billing makes it cheap to test both.

Good fits

What to run in Amsterdam.

Three jobs that suit the Netherlands, and the plan we would start each one on. Delete any time and billing stops.

  • A SaaS or shop backend for Europe

One server close to the UK, France, Benelux and Germany at once. Eight vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM carry a busy app and its database.

    Lite 8$12/mo

    Deploy Lite 8 in Amsterdam
  • Downloads, mirrors and video

A Traffic Lite gives you 32 TB of outbound traffic a month in Amsterdam, for the projects that would blow through a normal allowance.

    Traffic Lite 4$10/mo

Deploy Traffic Lite 4 in Amsterdam
  • A VPN or dev box you pay for once

A Forever Keep is a small server you buy one time and keep, with 32 TB of traffic a month. A good personal VPN exit inside the EU.

    Forever Keep 1$140 once

Deploy Forever Keep 1 in Amsterdam

How it works

From payment to root in Amsterdam.

No sales call, no paperwork. One crypto deposit funds every server you run, in any of our countries.

  1. Create an account

An email address and a password, plus your country for VAT. No name, no phone number, no ID.

  2. Add funds in crypto

From $20, in Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Solana, BNB, XRP or Monero. Your first deposit picks up the launch bonus by itself.

  3. Pick the plan in Amsterdam

Choose an image, add your SSH key or take a root password, and deploy. Billing starts when the server is ready.

  4. Log in and build

Your server is usually ready within 15 minutes. Full root access, an IPv4 address and DDoS filtering come with it.

Netherlands questions

Before you pick Amsterdam.

Is Amsterdam fast for users in the UK, France and Germany?

Yes. The physics floor from Amsterdam is 4 ms to London, 4 ms to Paris and 6 ms to Berlin. Real pings are higher, but distances in Western Europe barely get shorter than this.

Should I pick Amsterdam or Frankfurt?

Both are central. Amsterdam is a little closer to London (4 ms against 6 ms from Frankfurt). Frankfurt is closer to Warsaw (9 ms against 11 ms) and the east. Hourly billing makes it cheap to try both and measure.

Does GDPR apply to my server in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands applies the GDPR, supervised by the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. Whether it applies to your own project depends on who you are and whose personal data you handle, not only on where the server sits.

Is the Netherlands a no-takedown location?

No. Like every EU country it applies the Digital Services Act, which requires hosting providers to run a notice-and-action process for reports of illegal content.

Can I run a high-traffic project in Amsterdam?

Yes. Every plan includes traffic, and a Traffic Lite includes 32 TB a month. Only outbound traffic counts, the allowances of all your servers add up into one pool, and anything beyond the pool costs $2 per TB.

Does a server here cost more than in other countries?

No. Every plan costs the same in all 15 of our countries, with the same traffic allowance, billed by the hour and never more than the monthly price.
